csBACKUP

csBACKUP has been designed to ensure that the process of backing up the data on the Cobalt RaQ server is both trouble-free and efficient, without any compromise to the security of the server.  csBACKUP comes with an easy-to-use GUI Control Panel, enabling the user to have complete control of the software.

The csBACKUP GUI allows the user to decide when to schedule the backups and how often they will occur.  Everything can be controlled from the Cobalt GUI.

Using csBACKUP also enables the user to specify what files on the server to backup.  In addition, the user can configure where the backup are to be stored.  csBACKUP has the option to either use the standard FTP protocol to send the backup files or use the Secure Copy Protocol SCP.  Restoration of a backup is fully automated via the Cobalt Management GUI.

I've got some question about csBACKUP

We've received quite a few questions about the different features of csBACKUP.  Here are the most frequently asked ones so that you can decide if this package is the backup system you have been looking for.

Q.  It appears similar to the Cobalt backup function - which in my experience doesn't work!
A.  That's why we built this package.  It's easy to use and reliable - even over a slow Internet connection.

Q.  Will it backup my virtual sites?
A.  ALL sites and ALL users gets backed up automatically.

Q.  What else will it backup?
A.  If you want to backup some extra directories there are five empty fields designed for that.  Simply enter the directories in the spaces provided and they will be archived and added to backup.

Q. Do you have an example to show me?
A.  Say you want to backup your MailScanner directory.  Type /home/MailScanner in one of the empty fields, the directory will then be archived and added to the backup.  /etc is added by default.  There are full instructions in the User Manual.

Q.  Is it possible to keep several versions of a backup (son, father, grandfather)?
A.  It's possible to keep today's backup, yesterday's backup, etc.  Each file has the date in its name.

Q.  Will csBACKUP cope with large amounts of data at the same time?
A.  All of the data is compressed, so this won't present a problem.

Q. Can I backup from a RaQ4 and restore the data to a RaQXTR or RaQ550?
A.  Yes. csBACKUP can restore data to a different type of RaQ server.

Q.  How easy is the RESTORE function?
A.  You simply upload the backup file onto server, put it in the admin directory and run the script - it will do the rest automatically.  If you are nervous about doing it yourself, we provide a FREE restoration service.

Q.  What about "file permissions" and "file ownership"?  Are they an issue when restoring?
A.  No. csBACKUP restores users, then it restores users' files.

Q.  What if I don't have my own backup server?
A.  That's easy. We can offer you FREE space on one of our backup servers.  See our Backup Service webpage for full details.
